FAIR 5 - CT - 97 - 3940

Factors affecting hide and skin quality:

Development of strategies for improving the raw material of the leather industry

WHAT’S NEW

The project was completed, on schedule, by 28 February 2001, and the final report submitted to the European Commission. The final report included an assessment of areas where further research is required.

An extract from the final report covering this aspect is appended:

As a follow up to the project, an application has been submitted to the European Commission by a consortium of European tanners’ associations, research institutes, tanners and hide suppliers, for a detailed research project into effective parasite control and practical traceability systems for hides and skins.

The other main deliverable from the FAIR Project was the Computer Aided Technical training Programme on Factors Affecting Hide and Skin Quality on compact disc. This is in five languages - English, French, German, Italian and Spanish - and copies are available from the project co-ordinator, or from the other project partners (prices on application).
